History of Air Mauritius

Air Mauritius was founded in June of 1967. Operations began in 1972 with a small Piper aeroplane which could hold only 6 passengers. The first flight took off from Mauritius and landed in Rodrigues Island. Air Mauritius’ success has been built on the people of Mauritius and their need to be connected with the rest of the world, to not be an isolated island. This was the initial need for a regional airline. The first international flight routes were opened in 1977. After 40 years of service Air Mauritius flies to destinations in Europe, Asia, and Africa on top of their regional destinations. Their fleet consists mainly of Airbus aircraft.

  • Meals: There is a complimentary hot meal service on all Air Mauritius flights. The airline is able to accommodate special meal requirements with at least 24 hours notice.
