Air Senegal International is a Senegalese-based company offering numerous flights to West Africa but as well to North Africa (Casablanca) and various cities in Europe (Brussels, Paris, Marseille, Milan, Madrid). Air Senegal flights were grounded in April of 2009 and the company is in the process of rebuilding itself under the new name Senegal Airlines which is due to resume flights in early 2010.

History of Air Senegal

Air Senegal was founded in February 1971 but did not begin operating flights until February of 2001 when it was restructured by Royal Air Maroc, one of the airline’s biggest shareholders. The airline is part owned by Royal Air Maroc and part owned by the Senegalese government. The airline experienced great financial loses and cancelled all of its operations in April of 2009, leaving hundreds of travelers stranded in France and in Senegal. A new airline is to replace Air Senegal International in 2010. It will be named Senegal Airlines.

  • Meals: There is meal service on all Air Senegal flights. The menus incorporate both European and African cuisine styles.
  • Entertainment: There are daily newspapers available during the flight as well as audio visual programming.

• Baggage Allowances

  • Cabin: 1 standard-sized piece of carry on baggage is permitted per passenger.
  • Checked: The baggage restrictions are indicated on each ticket or the confirmation e-mail received after booking. For Horizons Silver members, an extra 10 kg is permitted and for Horizons Gold members, and extra 20 kg.
  • Excess: Air Senegal does not indicate any overweight baggage fees.
