It's an English Heritage sight and costs £12 per family to enter, free for English Heritage Members. If you don't want to pay the entrance, it's almost just as satisfying to walk around it and circle the remaining castle walls.
Keep going with your Coventry car hire past Kenilworth and you'll enter Warwickshire, where you can visit Stratford-upon-Avon as well as Warwick. Warwick in particular is known for its medieval castle. Stratford-upon-Avon is so pretty and quaint, the postcard for "British country town." It is the hometown of William Shakespeare so why not see a masterpiece by the playwright while you're here?
