You can reach the Blue Lagoon in less than an hour from Reykjavik by car.

Þingvellir National Park

Located in southern Iceland, Þingvellir is an UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is home to the longest running Parliament in the world. Parliament was first established here in 930 AD. Why should you go there? For the wild landscape! This place sits right on the border of the tectonic plates that divide Europe from North America. First visit the old parliament site, then head to the lava fields.

Skaftafell

Glacier hiking is one of the most popular things to do while on holidays in Iceland. The best area to do it is Skaftafell, located in south-east Iceland. This area is home to the highest mountain in Iceland, the largest glacier and the most powerful waterfall in Europe (back to the superlatives!). As it is part of a national park there is a small fee upon entering. There are glacier hikes year-round and ice-climbing is also popular.
