Liverpool is teeming with culture, musical history and enough sights for any tourist to keep busy with. Arriving via flights to Liverpool? After you collect your baggage, head to the car hire counter and pick up your rental car, either short-term or long term car hire, from Alamo, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz and National.
Apart from the airport, you can also pick up a low cost car hire from the City of Liverpool. Thrifty and Countrywide Vehicle Rentals are located along the docklands, while WhizzGo Car Club is right next to the Moorfields train station. Hertz is on Vauxhall Road, near the Kingsway. It's always worth the time to compare rates since deals can vary location to location (even with the same company) and especially from the major international car hire companies and the local ones.
Parking in Liverpool: what you should know
There is plenty of parking within the city centre and it won't be hard to find a place to park your rental car while visiting Liverpool. There are two types of parking in Liverpool, street spots with Pay & Display meters as well as off-street parking bays, as well with Pay & Display meters. There are 1500+ street parking spots in the central area, which you have to pay for from 8am-6pm every day. This costs £1 for 30 minutes, £2/hour, £3/1.5 hours and £4/2 hours. Street parking is much cheaper in the outer zones.

Road trips from Liverpool: what to do, what to see
There is certainly enough to do in Liverpool City but if you've hired a cheap rent a car, then make good use of it by exploring the borough's surrounding Liverpool and then heading out of the city limits to neighbouring cities like Manchester and Chester. Being so central, Liverpool is the ideal city to base yourself in if you'd like to take day-trips around England.
- A stone's throw away: Just across the River Mersey is the Wirral peninsula which connects Liverpool to Birkenhead. Although not entirely touristy, it's an interesting place to spend an afternoon if you want a change of scenery from Liverpool. Check out Birkenhead Park, the first publicly-funded park in Britain and get a great view of Liverpool from along the riverside.
- A little further: Chester is a beautiful historic town along the River Dee. It's ancient Roman ruins and old city wall make it an excellent place to learn about the history of England. Some also call it the gateway to Wales, since Llandudno and Snowdonia are nearby.
- A proper day-trip: Manchester used to be known for its industrial factories but it doesn't come with all the dirt and grime it used to. Today Manchester is a chic city, just waiting to tell the rest of England that it's got something to say. You're more likely to see skyscrapers than chimneys in the skyline. Less than an hour away, it's worth the trip.
