If so, then let's get on with finding you an affordable car hire in Prague as well. The airport is the best place to pick up your car hire in Prague. There is a ton of selection and usually great deals. Choose from Avis, Budget, CS-Czechocar, Dvorak Rent a Car, Europcar, Hertz and Sixt.
There are at least a dozen car rental companies in Prague's city centre although they tend to be quick small with limited selection. If you don't manage to pick one up as soon as you arrive, it may be worthwhile to go back to the airport later to get a rent car. Compare car hire prices before booking anything.
Parking in Prague: what you should know
Parking in Prague can be tricky if you don't have the appropriate permit. This goes mostly for street parking in residential areas as well as Blue Zone parking spaces. You're best bet is to either use a Park & Ride lot on the outskirts or make sure you book hotels in Prague that offer parking.
You'll find street parking available throughout the city, marked by colours. Orange means 2 hours max, green means 6 hours max and blue is reserved for residents and offices only (so DON'T park there). Parking is operated by Pay & Display meters, from 8:00am until 6:00pm. You can also use Prague's parking garages located in the following places: National Theatre, Kotva Store, Old Town, Prague Marriott, Hotel Intercontinental, Wenceslas Square, Bolzanova St near the train station and Garage Helios.
Road trips from Prague: what to do, what to see
- A stone's throw away: Beroun isn't exactly a tourist place to visit but it does have its Medieval charms to it. Just 45 minutes from Prague, on the way to Pilsen, Beroun is a great place to stop if you're looking for some great hiking. Take the 1.5 hour walk up to Ded, a hill with an excellent look-out point on the top. Nearby are the Konepruske jeskyne caves which are also noteworthy.
- A little further: If you truly love beer there you'll make time during you holidays in Prague to visit Pilsen… home of Pilsener. The Pilsner Urquell Brewery should be your first stop. Founded in 1842 is has become a place a pilgrimage among beer-lovers. Take a tour, the brewery is open from 12:30pm daily.
- A proper day-trip: Olomouc is the second oldest city in the Czech Republic, located just alongside the Morava River. Start your city tour in the main square at the Holy Trinity Column, the largest in Europe. Have you spotted the astronomical clock on the Town Hall building? There are many lovely churches and cathedrals here as well as the Bezručovy Sady, a leafy park near the Fortress.
