Experience Marrakech: what to do, what to see
Majestic and mesmerising, Marrakech is the jewel of Morocco. Located close to the desert and also near the Atlantic Ocean, Marrakech owes its nickname the "Red City" to its ochre-coloured walls. Renowned worldwide for its minarets and palm trees, the red city also has an impressive heritage to discover while on holidays in Marrakech.
Essentials in Marrakech
Koutoubia: The most emblematic sight in the city, this monument was built in 1158 by the Almohades and reaches over 70m tall. It's named after the book merchants who sell their manuscripts nearby and who have always sold their books, since the day the building was erected. While it's not possible to go inside, you can still admire it from outside.
Djemaa El-Fna: This place is inescapable if you want a glance into the daily life of Moroccan people. By day it's a lively square and by night it turns into a festival. Find musicians, dancers, story tellers in the heart of the medina. Stalls surrounding the square sell delicious Moroccan food and women offer henna tattoos.
Souks: You can spend days exploring the souks, Marrakech's marketplaces. You can buy almost anything here: spices, clothes, shoes, jellabas, tea pots, tagines, kaftans... it's endless! You might even need to pick up an extra suitcase for all the treasures you'll want to bring back. Sellers here are much more easy-going than in Egypt or Turkey, so enjoy, relax and shop until you drop.

Accommodations in Marrakech
Marrakech has a myriad of attractive hotels thanks to the number of design-inspired hotels, guest houses and the more tradition riads. Generally speaking, hotels in Marrakech tend to me more style-conscious than elsewhere in Morocco and especially in Northern Africa.
