Cantabria is a beautiful region in Spain and Santander is its glorious capital. The city has a small historic city centre, some nice beaches but the biggest attraction if the Magdalena Palace, used as a summer residence by Spanish royalty.
Palacio de la Magdalena: This grand and opulent palace is certainly fit for a king! This was the Spanish king's summer residence from 1913 to 1930. Today it is a museum and visitors are welcome to take tours of the property.
Jardines de Pereda: This is the city's most famous and popular park, with lots of trees, flowers, a pond, music pavilion and a monument dedicated to the writer José María de Pereda. It's a nice spot to enjoy a picnic on a sunny afternoon.
Beaches: Santander has many fine beaches and you won't be short of choice. The best ones are easiest to reach with a Santander car hire though. Some of the best include Playa de Bikinis, Playa de la Magdalena, Playa de Langre and Playa Primera de El Sadinero.

Santander has a number of hotels although in the summer they do tend to book up and last minute rooms are rarely available. Avoid disappointment and book your hotels in Santander early. Seafront rooms are premium but the city is small enough that the coast is rarely more than a 30 minute walk away.
