Fly Niki was established in 2003 out of Vienna International Airport. It is a low-cost airline offering service to European destinations and Egyptian from three different hubs: Vienna, Salzburg, and Friedrichshafen. Fly Niki is named after its founding president, Andreas Nikolaus “Niki” Lauda, Formula One racecar driver and aviator.

History of Fly Niki
Fly Niki was founded in 2003 and began with a single service from Vienna to Tenerife. From there passenger numbers began increasing and destinations in Egypt were added to the network. Fly Niki was new and fresh and Austrians liked it. Niki established a partnership with Air Berlin in 2004 which marked the first alliance between two low-cost airlines. With this partnership came the city shuttle service between Rome and Zurich. In 2005 the very young airline received the Airline of the Year award from the online travel agency travelchannel.de. Fly Niki developed a program in its network called the Euro-Shuttle with Mallorca and Paris as its two destinations. In April of 2005 the millionth passenger is welcomed aboard, a milestone in Fly Niki’s young history. In 2006 Fly Niki provides meals fit for royalty. Demel, who is the official purveyor to the court of the Monarchy in Vienna, now offers its delicacies on board Fly Niki flights.
In 2007 Fly Niki soared across the continent and landed in Moscow for the first time. They were greeted warmly in Russia and the route stayed open. This flight can cost as little as 49€ one way. The airline also reevaluated its policies and from November of 2007 began offering new services for passengers with physical or mental disabilities: in addition to the normal luggage allowance and free transportation of aids and wheelchairs, these passengers are allowed 10kg of extra luggage. Since 2008, Fly Niki has been focusing on increasing the traffic on their already existing routes, especially for business travelers. In 2009 Fly Niki was chosen as the airline of choice by Reise & Preise, Best Low Cost Airline.

Onboard services
- Meals: All passengers are served a sandwich and drink on all flights. This is included in the price of the ticket. There is also the option of ordering a hot meal which can be done on-line or on-board.
- Entertainment: There are TV series, movies, cartoons, and radio offered on individual entertainment systems. As well a selection of newspapers and magazines are available free of charge.

Baggage Allowances
- Cabin: 1 item with a weight of 6kg and dimensions 55cm x 40cm x 35cm.
- Checked: For short/medium-haul flights the maximum is 20kg a person. This baggage allowance applied to children and infants as well.
- Excess: Fines for excess baggage range from 5€/kg on domestic flights, and 8€/kg on international flights. The cost of an additional piece of luggage is 150€.
Discounts and Special Offers
Children under the age of 2 years pay 10% of the regular fare. Children under the age of 12 pay 67% of the regular fare. There is a 3% discount for group travel of 10 passengers or more travelling with the same outgoing flight and return flight. There is a resident discount for Spanish nationals on selected Spanish domestic flights of 50% that is levied by the Spanish government.
