History of Germanwings

Germanwings was originally founded as Eurowings Flug in 1997. It was one of the first low cost airlines to operate in Germany and offer connecting flights on to other destinations. The name was changed to Germanwings in October of 2002. This same year, Germanwings launched services with a new Airbus.

Travel with Germanwings: practical information

  • Onboard Services

    • Meals: There is a range of food products available for purchase onboard: sandwiches, snacks, hot and cold drinks. Passengers can pay in Euros or by credit card.
    • Entertainment: Germanwings welcomes passengers to bring their own portable DVD players and mp3 players to use during the flight. There is an in-flight magazine available as well.
  • Baggage Allowances

    • Cabin: 1 piece is permitted per passenger. The maximum dimensions are 55 x 40 x 20 cm. Germainwings does not indicate a weight restriction on hand luggage.
    • Checked: There is a fee of €8 for each piece of registered checked luggage. The maximum total weight is 20 kg. At the airport this fee is €20.
    • Excess: For luggage that is registered as overweight the fee is €20 (between 20-30 kg) and for heavier luggage the fee is €40 (between 30-40kg). At the airport, if a piece of luggage is overweight, there is a fee of €8/kg.

Discounts and Special Offers
