Working in Afghanistan as the manager of the local Commander’s Emergency Response Program, she flew to Dubai International Airport and was amazed at its size and structure.

“The airport itself was the most grand I’d ever seen. Storey upon storey rose before me with golden sculptures and towering palms. In my jeans and sneakers I felt underdressed somehow,” she said, commenting that the English signs within the airport are extremely helpful.
