We’re in Chester this week on our Heritage Britain tour. As one of Britain’s oldest cities, you can bet there are plenty of medieval sights to see! City walls with birds eye views, the elegantly decorative Victorian Eastgate Clock and the city’s black and white timber framed houses.
Stratford, a lovely little city on the Avon River, is famous thanks to the birth of the greatest playwright of all time. That’s right, William Shakespeare was born in Stratford and today the city is home to the Royal Shakespeare Company.
York’s heritage is packed with stories from Edwardian, Georgian, Saxon, Viking times and all the way back to Roman Britain. From castles to cathedrals, ancient stone walls to modern museums, there are 2000 years of history to uncover here, a lot to do for one weekend.
The capital of Cumbria, Carlisle sits just on the border between England and Scotland with Hadrian’s wall on one side and the lovely Lake District on the other. From Carlisle Castle to the 11th century cathedral… Carlisle is your ticket to a thousand year’s worth of history and heritage.
Beautiful Bath… heralded as the finest Georgian city in Britain, Bath is (without sounding too cliché) is a sight to see. Attracting the likes of Lady Emma Hamilton, Jane Austen (albeit reluctantly at first), William Wordsworth and King Louis XVIII of France, Bath is so much more than just a convalescent stopover.
Britain is celebrating this summer! The whole country will have its eyes on London as the Queen celebrates her Diamond Jubilee in June. This summer is all about British culture, heritage and age-old traditions.
