What you should know before hiring a car in Bratislava
Car hires in Bratislava: practical information
Where to rent a car in Bratislava
Slovakia’s capital has a lot going for it, as much on its outskirts as in the city centre. One of the best things about Bratislava is that so much of Slovakia’s magnificent nature is within easy reach. To get there though, you’ll need a Bratislava car hire. Pick one up at the airport, when you disembark from your flights to Bratislava.
A. Klees, Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, among others, are located at Bratislava Airport. Most of these also have offices in the city centre to make it even easier for visitors, no matter what their itinerary.
Driving in Bratislava: parking and other tips
Driving in Bratislava is pretty straight forward but pedestrian areas in the city centre can give drivers a headache. There are also plenty of one-way streets that are poorly marked so watch out!
Parking in the city centre is pretty restricted and private car parks can be expensive as well. Ideally, your Bratislava hotel will have parking available for guests to use, just make sure you check before you book.
Road trips from Bratislava: what to do, what to see
The ruins of Devin are just a short trip outside the city centre, only 12km. From here you’ll get the most incredible views of Austria and where the two rivers meet, the mighty Danube and Moravia. Walk up towards Sandberg to see sea-fossils from ages ago.
Small Carpathian Wine Region
Located on the southern slopes of the Small Carpathian mountains are a number of lovely little villages with extensive vineyards and plenty of small wineries. If you’re interested in tasting and exploring some local wines, just follow the Little Carpathians Wine Route to see which wineries offer tastings and tours.
Carnuntum archaeological park is just 25 km from Bratislava, just across the Austrian border and is home to some remarkable ancient Roman ruins. It’s definitely a good day trip from the capital to see the walled city of Hainburg, the first city after the Slovak-Austrian border.
