Pula was built by the Illyrians 3,000 years ago and has been attracting visitors since then. Its history is a varied one, which is why you'll find plenty of Roman, Venetian, Hungarian, Croatian and other influences around the city.
Arena: Pula's Arena is the 6th largest surviving Roman amphitheatre in the world. It's a miracle it survived as Venetians planed to take it, stone by stone, to Venice. Other stones were taken to build other houses but fortunately it still stands today and can be explored for 20kn.
Brijuni: The stunning islands off the coast are a must for a day trip while on holidays in Pula. Bring a pair of walking shoes, your swimsuit and a camera, if you plan to visit Tito's old house (leader of former Yugoslavia).
Kamenjak: If you're looking for beaches on the mainland, head to Kamenjak near Premantura. This is the most southern point on the Istria peninsula with some very beautiful nature, great for hiking and mountain biking.
