Car hires in Lanzarote: practical information
Where to rent a car in Lanzarote
There’s no shortage of car hire places in Lanzarote as it’s a popular way to get around the island. You’ll find a number of places in and around Arrecife town centre like Budget and Avis. At Arrecife Airport (ACE), you can expect to see Hertz when you exit the baggage reclaim area. Competition between rental places is pretty fierce so compare prices before committing to one company.
Driving in Lanzarote: parking and other tips
A rental car really is the best way to explore the island. It only takes around 40 minutes to drive from one end to the other, north to south, and only about 25 minutes from east to west.
Driving in Lanzarote is really quite easy and traffic is manageable outside of the resort areas, even in peak tourist season. Traffic regulations are the same in Lanzarote as in Spain and continental Europe but remember that use of mobile phones is strictly forbidden while driving.
Road trips from Lanzarote: what to do, what to see
Timanfaya National Park
This volcano last erupted in the 1730s and not much has changed since then. The volcanic landscape covers a quarter of the island and is really something impressive to see. Inside the park, stop off at the Mountains of Fire and the Visitor’s Centre.
Mirador del Rio
This lookout point on the more northern tip of the island is a must-see if you have a rental car while you’re on the island. The panoramic view across the small islands is just stunning. Why not make a day of it and pack the car up with a picnic to enjoy. A loaf of fresh bread, olives, a bottle of wine and some jam on serrano is the perfect spread.
Beaches
The main draw for tourists to Lanzarote are of course the beaches and you’ll be happy to have a rental if you hope to jump from one beach to the next while you’re on the island. There’s some fab scuba diving from Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca. Many visitors will book hotels in Lanzarote in this area, just so they can be close to the Teguise Coast beaches.
