It’s a royal affair when you plan a holiday in the Sultanate of Brunei! Start your trip planning with cheap flights to Brunei International Airport (BWN) just outside of Bandar Seri Begawan. Catch flights onboard Royal Brunei Airlines, Malaysian Airlines, KLM, among others.
Flights to Brunei should be booked 5-6 months in advance for the cheapest fares but when to go is also important. January is the hottest month but there is little difference between dry and wet season since it’s mostly always hot and humid in Brunei!
Direct flights to Brunei take 16 hours 30 minutes from London.
Brunei is small but it packs a big punch and is one of the richest countries in Southeast Asia thanks to its petroleum and natural gas resources. The country has been ruled by the same family for more than 600 years and the royal palace is always the first sight to see for first-time visitors.
Istana Nurul Iman: Brunei’s royal palace is the largest occupied residential palace. The palace plot is 300 acres and sits on a man-made hill with views of Kampong Ayer. The current Sultan lives there with his family.
Scuba diving: Brunei has some fantastic scuba diving in the Chinese Sea with plenty of shipwrecks in good condition. The Blue Water Wreck is the most popular, an 80m trawler.
Kampong Ayer: This water village is best visited by taxi boat and is really quite a magical sight with hundreds of small houses that seem to float on the water. Catch a water taxi anywhere along the Brunei River in Bandar Seri Begawan.

Hotels in Brunei used to be very expensive but with new budget guesthouses opening every year the country has become more affordable for budget travellers. There is only one youth hostel in the country but hopefully this will change in the near future.
