Kuwait City is a busy capital with high-rise skyscrapers, luxury hotels, wide tree-lined boulevards and parks. The city's port is always full of oil tankers and cargo ships. City highlights include the famous Kuwait towers, Liberation Tower and the National Museum.
Essentials in Kuwait
Kuwait Towers: These towers were designed by Swedes but built by Yugoslavs in the 1970s. The first houses a viewing sphere where you can take some pretty amazing photos of the city below. There is also a restaurant in the biggest tower.
National Museum: Unfortunately many of the museum's artefacts were stolen during the war but it is still an important stop for anyone visiting Kuwait for the first time. Entry is free and visitors can visit a recreated Kuwait souq and an old boum.
Sadu House: This coral and gypsum house has a fine collection of arts and crafts from the Bedouin society. Located right beside the National Museum, it's the best place to buy Bedouin souvenirs while on holidays in Kuwait.

There are plenty of hotels in Kuwait. Western visitors will be familiar with the Marriott, Four Points Sheraton, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn. A double room in a 4* hotel will set you back around £150 a night but there are also hotels in the mid-range as well, located in the city centre.
