Trekking: Northern Laos is the best place to go trekking in the mountains. This is also a great area to experience a home stay in one of the country’s indigenous tribes. The Ban Nalan Trail comes recommended.
Herbal Saunas: A favourite pastime for the Lao people is a herbal sauna. These are often run by temples in a bamboo shack. The hot rooms are scented with fresh lemongrass thrown onto the coals.

There are plenty of options when it comes to hotels in the Mekong Valley and in the capital, Vientiane. Outside of these areas there are usually only basic hotels and guesthouses available which are best booked in advance to avoid disappointment.
