We are the first pan-European meta travel search engine to have integrated carbon footprint (CO2) calculations into our flight search results. We do this in real-time while searching and displaying flight results.
Our approach is innovative for several reasons:
- We distinguish between passenger class - a first class seat has a different footprint when compared to an economy class seat.
- We take into account the number of transits and where they occur – a flight to New York via Frankfurt has a different footprint from a flight to New York via Dublin.
- We take into account the difference between long-haul and short-haul aircrafts.
- We also recognise different airports (even when they are relatively close) – for instance, flying to Barcelona is not the same as flying to Girona.
Our methodology uses guidelines set-up by DEFRA (Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs).
Why do we do this?
We believe that it is important that users not only get the best financial cost options but also an indication of the environmental cost options of flights. This way, you have more information when choosing your flights.
