Air Europa is a Spanish airline based in Majorca and Madrid. It operates scheduled but also charter flights between Northern and Western Europe and resort destinations both in the Canary and the Balearic Islands. Today it is one of the most modern airlines in Europe.
Air Europa was founded in 1986 when Globalia Corporation divided. This same year the airline began its operations as a commercial airline carrier. In 1993 the company began operating domestically. It was the first private company to operate domestic flights in Spain which heated the competition with Iberia. The airline’s most profitable route from Madrid to Barcelona began its operation in 1994. The first international flight for the small airline flew from London to New York City. By 1996 the airline was increasingly growing by routes and number of flights. In 1996 Air Europa was servicing 750 weekly flights.
At the beginning of the new millennium, the airline introduced its loyalty rewards program called “Flying Blue.” This same year the airline also made arrangements to code share with a few other airlines like Alitalia. Air Europa introduced cutting-edge technology to their Boeings to reduce fuel consumption and air pollution. Finally in 2007 the Spanish airline introduced two transatlantic flight routes, Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro. It has one of the most modern fleets in Europe and it has joined the Sky Team alliance.
