Car hires in Granada: practical information
Where to rent a car in Granada
Granada is right at the feet of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and there are so many places to visit, right outside the city. A car hire is absolutely necessary if you want to explore further afield. There are a handful of car hire companies in the city centre but these tend to be more expensive than rental companies at Granada Airport (GRX). So book your rental at the same time as your flights to Granada.
Driving in Granada: parking and other tips
Driving in Granada can be difficult, even for frequent visitors. In this historic city, it’s a given that many roads are very narrow and often only one-way. It’s a mess of buses, scooters, taxis and locals trying to get around. In the city, it’s ideal to use your Granada hotel car park for the day and only take your Granada car hire out for day trips.
There are several large car parks in the city centre if your hotel doesn’t have on-site parking. Be prepared however to dish out if you keep your car in one for an extended period of time.
Road trips from Granada: what to do, what to see
Cordoba
Smaller than Granada, Cordoba is an incredible historic city that is now an UNESCO World Heritage Site, as many different cultures settled here throughout history. The Mezquita is the top sight, a mosque turned cathedral. The Old City has tons of Roman ruins and beautiful buildings.
Sierra Nevada
You can see the Sierra Nevada Mountains from the city centre in Granada and they’re snow-covered for most of the year. In winter, it’s one of Spain’s premiere ski destinations and in summer, the national park is ideal for paragliding, canyoning, hiking, rock climbing and horse-back riding.
Las Alpujarras
This enchanting part of Andalusia is a very easy day trip with a rent car from Granada. These small towns sit between the summits of the Sierra Nevada and the Mediterranean coast. Expect tiny, winding roads! Not recommended if you get vertigo or carsick.
