Koukounaries is the most famous beach on the island, located on the southern side of Skiathos. The shore is covered in Stone Pines, one of the last remaining Stone Pine forests in all of Greece. Next to it is Big Banana beach, a popular spot for Skiathos youth. The next beach from there is Small Banana, reserved for those who like to enjoy the beach in the nude while on holidays in Skiathos.
It goes without saying that if the southern part of the island is the most developed and the most popular beach is located there then the northern part of Skiathos is where you'll want to head for more uncrowded beaches and secluded hideaways. One of those is Lalaria Beach. You can only reach it by boat, possible from Skiathos Harbour. It's famous for its rock arches, big enough for boats to pass under. The beach is pebbly and the cliffs nearby are great for jumping off of.
Skopelos is the closest island to Skiathos and another popular tourist island, but far less crowded than Skiathos. Located in the western Aegean Sea, it's easily reached by ferry. You may recognize this island from the movie Mamma Mia! which was filmed here, in particular the wedding procession at the Agios Ioannis Chapel.
