What you should know before hiring a car in Split
Car hires in Split: practical information
Where to rent a car in Split
Ready for your Croatian adventure? Split is right on the Dalmatian coast and is a treat to visit just about any time of the year. When planning your trip, consider booking a rental car alongside your flights to Split. It’s the easiest way to get around this part of Croatia. Pick up a car hire from Split Airport (SPU) on your way out towards the car park.
You can also rent a car in Split city centre. There are a handful of car rental agencies in the city centre but it’s best to book a car in advance and online to avoid disappointment.
Driving in Split: parking and other tips
Split is quite a compact city so it’s easy to get around on foot most of the time. Outlying attractions and some spots along the coast however are best reached with a rental car.
Parking can be tricky, particularly in the more historic areas of the city so it’s best to leave your rental car at your Split hotel during the day and only take it out when travelling out of the city.
Road trips from Split: what to do, what to see
A quick drive to the west of Split will bring you to this hill that is well-known as a place to escape within the city. It’s a great place for long walks, jog and cycle. The hill’s peak, which sits about 175m high, offers the most fantastic views over Split. Don’t miss a visit to the beautiful St. Jeronimus Church on the hill’s south side.
If you’ve book a holiday in Croatia, chances are you’re looking forward to spending some time at the beach. In Split, the best place to do that is at Bačvice. The beach is lined with cafes and shops and really has a feeling of “real” Croatia, as it’s a favourite spot among locals.
The Klis Fortress is not too far from Split and is a perfect spot to explore the history of the region. This medieval fortress was built by the ancient Illyrian tribe Dalmatae before it was a royal castle for the Croatian kings.
