Parco del Cardeto: If you're looking to escape the summer afternoon heat, head to this park for a picnic under the shade of the trees. There are some lovely views here of the coast and the city.
Pinacoteca Comunale: In other words, communal art gallery, this place has a fine selection of 100+ pieces of art from the 14th to the 19th century, particularly from artists from the Marche and Veneto regions. Don't miss the modern art on the top floor.

There are a number of hotels in Ancona but most visitors stay in resorts and villas further along the coast, outside of the city. Summer is extremely busy so booking your hotels in Ancona in advance is a must, unless you don't mind to camp on the beach (which is not allowed).
