Latvia is full of treasures from the Baltic Sea to Riga, a World Heritage Site. Pretty beaches and historic towns like Liepaja are certainly enough to fill any curious traveller’s itinerary. Here’s some Latvian inspiration to get you started.
Riga: Most all visitors arrive in Latvia on flights to Riga. The city has more than 800 years of history and is home to about half of the country’s population. The Jugendstil architecture is a highlight as well as its non-stop nightlife.
Liepaja: This coastal city is Latvia’s City of Music. Many famous Latvian musicians come from here but it’s more known for its history. It was once a secret military town called Karosta. It’s best in summer for the beaches.
Madona: For some fresh air, this small eastern town offers plenty for the intrepid traveller: lakes, forests, hills and more. It’s a great spot for hiking and exploring Latvia’s countryside.

Latvia has plenty on offer when it comes to hotels but you will find mostly mid-range choices and only a few 5* options. Hotel room prices double in Riga so if you’re on a budget, exploring the countryside is a great option. Country houses and guest houses abound and are much more quaint than a road-side hotel.
