Whether it’s the beach that beckons or the thrill of discovering a new culture, Lebanon checks both boxes with plenty of ancient Roman sites to see as well. Start in Beirut but don’t miss the Roman Temples in Baalbeck or the Arabic palace of Beiteddine.
Beirut: This city is manic but first-time visitors are always surprised by the beauty of the city centre. Start in Place de l’Etoile and tour the outdoor cafes. Stroll along the beach and at night, soak up the nightlife that parties till dawn.
Baalbeck: If you have time for a road trip with your Lebanon car hire, then head to the Baalbeck Roman Temples. They’re incredible and are among the largest and most beautiful of ruins left from the Roman Empire.
Palace of Beiteddine: There is something really quite magical about Arabic architecture and this palace is no exception. It’s considered a jewel in the Arabic architectural tradition. There are two large courtyards, royal private apartments and a magnificent fountain to see.
