Lourdes is a special place, especially for Catholics. It is believed that the Virgin Mary appeared 18 times to a young girl at the Grotto. It has woken this sleepy town up from its spell and today Lourdes is buzzing all summer long with visitors.
Basilica of the Immaculate Conception: For many visitors, the Basilica is the highlight of their trip. It's located just above the Grotto and was designed by Hyppolyte Durand and built in the 1800s.
The Grotto: Of course the cave where Virgin Mary is said to have appeared to also quite a famous stop. Legend has it that Bernadette felt a gust of wind there and a light appeared in the shape of a small girl wearing white with a blue sash.
Candlelight Procession: Every single night there is a candlelight procession. You can join it with a candle bought from one of the many souvenir shops. It takes place in the main square outside the Basilica.
