The island of Male is small and only contains one city, the capital of the Maldives. According to some sources, the city of Male is the world’s densest. This is the perfect stepping off point to discovering the rest of the islands.
Sultan Park and Museum: Dive straight into some culture by visiting what was once the Sultan’s palace and is now the Maldivian National Museum. Royal regalia and three moon rocks are among the museum’s collection.
Republic Square: Central to Male is this park along the north coast. In the middle is a flagpole with a giant Maldivian flag. Police HQ isn’t far as most all political demonstrations take place here.
Halhumale Island: Catch a quick ferry to this nearby island to discover life outside the capital. This is an artificial island built to absorb the overflow of people in the capital. There is a great beach here plus some amazing restaurants.
