Penang is a treat with great hiking trails, stunning beaches and a huge dose of culture. From Georgetown's pre-WWII houses to Batu Ferringhi's beaches and beyond to the padi fields of Balik Pulau… Penang is waiting!
Georgetown: This is the best place to start if you've just arrived in Penang. The capital of the island is home to many beautiful pre-WWII houses and shops, 19th century churches and colonial buildings. The historic centre in its entirety is an UNESCO WHS.
Batu Ferringhi: If you're after a beautiful Penang beach, head to the northern coast to Batu Ferringhi. White sandy beaches are fronted by luxurious Penang hotels and restaurants. It's the most popular beach spot for locals and tourists alike.
Balik Pulau: For something a little different, try a trip to the back of the island where it's mostly orchards and fields, dotted with charming little Malay villages.

Most all of Penang's hotels are located in the popular beach resort areas like Batu Peringghi. They're not all luxury hotels though, Penang has a good variety of mid-range hotels and backpacker's hostels too. In Georgetown Chulia Street, untri Street and Love Lane are popular for hotels.
