Tallinn dates back to medieval times and the hill of Toompea is a great place to start your tour while on holidays in Tallinn. The city wall and old town are UNESCO sites while other parts of the city hold some interesting Soviet treasures.

Essentials in Tallinn

Hotel Viru: Tallinn was Soviet territory starting in 1940 and places like the Hotel Viru are of particular interest. The hotel was the former Intourist HQ, the so-called "den of Cold War intrigue." Every single room was tapped by the KGB!

Toompea Hill: Here you'll find the site of the Danish castle that founded the city in 1219. The viewpoint towers here give you amazing views over the city.

Kadriorg: For something a bit different, get a Tallinn car hire and head to this seaside resort district of the city. There are some beautiful 18th century wood houses as well as an eclectic mix of Art Deco architecture. The Kadriorg Palace and Garden are also worth a visit.
