Experience Tehran: what to see, what to do
Tehran is a buzzing metropolis with great parks, museums and markets. The locals are warm and friendly. The northern part of the city is the more modern, and most popular with visitors. Take a city tour, not missing the Azadi Tower, the National Museum of Iran or the Golestan Palace.
Essentials in Tehran
Azadi Tower: This has long been a symbol for the city. It was built to commemorate the 2,500 year anniversary of the Persian Empire and is a graceful blend of Islamic and Sassanid architecture. Entry includes admission to the museum.
National Museum of Iran: Iranian culture is rich in the decorative arts from ceramics to textiles. There are stone carvings and ceramics here dating to the 5th century. The museum has artefacts from Neolithic times all the way to present day.
Golestan Palace: This is the oldest historic monument in the city. The palace was once the Qajar's royal residence. The building is gorgeous but the gardens are really something spectacular, a lush and green oasis in the middle of the city.
