Road trips from Fuerteventura: what to do, what to see
Puerto del Rosario
This is the island’s main city which used to be called “Puerto de Cabra” (Goat Port) which, as you can imagine, didn’t attract the tourists in droves. The city has a new name and is well on its way to becoming the next big thing in the Canary Islands.
Heading north, this is really a unique part of the island. It’s famous for its sand dunes which blew over across the sea from the Sahara Desert, 60 miles away. It looks like a little piece of Africa! In Corralejo you can see sand dunes for miles upon miles.
Fuerteventura’s second main resort area, after Corralejo, is the Jandia Peninsula in the south. There are dozens of beaches here, including one that is a whopping 16 miles long. In recent years there has been a lot of development with a lot of new hotels being built so beaches tend to be more crowded than on other parts of the island.
