Anyone travelling to the USA later this month should definitely get in on this free museum action. More than 1,300 museums across the USA open their doors for free only once a year so don’t miss your chance on September 25th!
Museum Day started in the capital six years ago but it’s not just about museums in Washington D.C. any more. Museum Day has gone nation-wide and this year more than 1,300 museums across the country are participating.
This Saturday you will have to get up bright and early if you want to make the most out of this year’s National Museum Day.
Whether you visit an old favourite or try something new, this is a great time to catch the newest exhibits, see permanent collections you’ve been dying to see and support the country’s leading cultural institutes.
To take advantage of the free admission you must first download the Museum Day Ticket from Smithsonian.com. Each ticket allows free entry for two people to one participating museum.
Apart from free entry, many of the larger museums will also have guided tours, contests and other giveaways during the day. These include:
- Dallas Museum of Art
- Chicago’s Adler Planetarium
- The Autry National Centre (Los Angeles)
- Tower Hill Botanical Garden (Boylston, MA)
- Tampa Museum of Art
Don’t forget that travellers to the US need to pay an additional tourist fee upon entry.
