Miami! If you’re after sun and a good dose of chic, then Miami is the place. From South Beach’s sandy shores to Little Havana and on to the Design District, you can be sure you won’t be short of things to do and see here that won’t cost a penny!

One of the main draws for spending the holidays in Miami is South Beach. It’s an iconic place to be and for the cash-strapped, totally free. Skip the pricey bus tour and take yourself on a self-guided tour. Start out down 5th Street and head north to Dade Blvd and head towards the ocean. Which of the neighbourhood’s Art Deco is your favourite?

The Biltmore Hotel, located in Coral Gables, is one of the most popular historic attractions in Miami. You can join a free tour of the grounds on Sunday afternoons. Tours start at 1:30pm, 2:20pm and 3:30pm and are led by guides who will tell you stories of the hotel’s past when the likes of Judy Garland and Al Capone were regular guests.

Arts and culture

Miami’s Design District is not to be missed, especially on the second Saturday of every month. 100+ galleries, design showrooms and studios are open till 10pm in the Miami Design District, the perfect opportunity to get a closer look at the city’s up and coming artists plus have a great night out on the town.

Miami Art Museum is free for families and children between 1pm and 4pm on the second Saturday of the month. There is an organised tour at 2pm and also activities organised so your little ones can create something special while at the museum.

The world-renown Wolfsonian-FIU Art Museum is housed in a gorgeous 1926 Mediterranean-style warehouse. The best part is you can browse the collection of ceramics, furniture, books and paintings for free every Friday after 6pm.

Beach Day!

If you’re in Miami, chances are you’re here to hit the beach! Miami has miles upon miles of beaches that are free to access. In Miami Beach there are a dozen or so choices: South Pointe Park, South beach, Surfside and for the naturalists, Haulover Park. If you have the kids in tow, head to Key Biscayne and Virginia Key, both ideal for families in South Miami.
