Qantas plan to schedule direct flights from London to Perth within two years using new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
The 19-hour flight, crossing 8,991 miles, would be the world’s longest scheduled commercial flight. The current record holder is the flight to Sydney from Dallas (also Qantas) which is just under 17 hours long and 8,578 miles.
Due to the length of the flight it would require an extra pair of pilots and additional cabin crew.
Some concerns have been raised regarding the safety of flying non-stop from London to Perth. Should an emergency require the plane to land elsewhere, it might have to continue a further 1,300 mile stretch to read Adelaide, the nearest major airport.
