Here’s some exciting news for northerners hoping for a trip to the Big Apple in 2015. United Airlines has announced it would add a direct flight service from its hub at New York’s Newark Airport to Newcastle next spring.
The seasonal route is set to launch May 23rd and run all summer long until September 7th, 2015. United Airlines will operate the flight five times a week, daily except Tuesday and Wednesday and use a 169-seat Boeing 757 aircraft for the trip. The aircraft will be configured to include 16 flat-bed Business Class seats, 45 Economy Plus seats and 108 standard Economy seats.
This is a major new routes for Newcastle International Airport. While the north-eastern city has had some discount charter flights across the Atlantic before, this is the first regularly scheduled flight across the Atlantic Ocean with a major airline carrier.
As for the CEO of Newcastle Airport, he couldn’t be more elated,
“It’s a fantastic day for everyone associated with the airport. I have been clear throughout that this is a route that we have been determined to deliver for the region. We have been carefully and quietly working behind the scenes, with our shareholders, to secure what will be another game-changing new route.”
A game-changer indeed! So who’s up for some flights to New York from Newcastle?
