This week two of Southeast Asia’s most popular airline companies signed an agreement to combine their efforts and create a new low cost airline set to begin operating in the first quarter of this upcoming year. Thai Tiger Airways will be the newest cat in the Asian skies.
Thai Airways and Tiger Airways are teaming up on a new venture. The two airlines recently signed an agreement to create Thai Tiger Airways which will become an ultra low cost airline flying to both airline’s destinations just using the no-frills model made famous by Ryanair.
This new airline is planned to operate international and domestic flights from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport. The main focus is short haul flights and point-to-point services rather than flights with connections. All destinations will be within 5 hours flying time of Bangkok.
Tickets are planned to be sold mainly on-line to save money. As Thailand’s and Southeast Asia’s tourism is expected to boom, this airline comes at just the right time. It will also give travellers more freedom to explore the region further, giving them affordable options for travelling across the continent. This is great news for those looking for cheap flights from Bangkok in the next year.
Both Thai and Tiger Airways want to make it clear however that they are not merging. Thai Tiger Airways is a joint project, a financial and strategic investment, not a commercial partnership.
Can’t wait for this new cat to take to the skies later this year, a low cost airline like this will definitely help tourism get back on it’s feet after the riots in Bangkok earlier this year.
