The Hoscars have been handed out, the Oscars of hostels, awarded by Hostelworld.com, and it looks like hostels in Asia are getting better than ever, winning one in every five awards!
Hotels in Asia increased their share in the number of Hoscar awards by 16% compared to last year, taking home a fifth of the prizes. The top winner was definitely Japan with 6 awards, followed by Chine, Vietnam and Taiwan. Other countries like Uzbekistan, UAE and Myanmar picked up their first ever Hoscar awards this year too.
What can you expect from a hostel in Asia? The trend is definitely leaning towards industrial-chic design places, like the Banana Hostel in Taiwan. In Southeast Asia, there has been a rise in boutique design hostels in less-tread backpacking destinations and it’s a trend we can expect will continue across the continent. Who fancies flights to Bangkok to check them out?
But it’s Europe who has topped them all, taking home more than half of the Hoscars, with Portugal picking up the most awards than any other country. The award for best hostel in Europe went to Home Lisbon Hostel.
