It’s no surprise that come summer, Nice is where you can find all the celebs soaking up the sun, shopping and indulging in the best cuisine that France has to offer. Forget the idea that Nice is only for the rich and famous, explore this city for free!
City sights
Nice is fantastic, especially in summer. To get a real feel for the city, head up to the Old Chateau. Don’t look for a castle though, it was destroyed in the 18th century but the view from the top of the hill is magnificent. The port, boardwalk and old town are just below. If you’re not up for the walk up the hill, splurge on the €1 elevator ride.
The Promenade des Anglais is the place to be and be seen. A walk along the promenade in late afternoon or after dinner is a must and it’s completely free. It stretches on for miles and if it all get a bit exhausting, there are plenty of benches to sit on along the way.
For a bit of shopping, head into Vieux Nice‘s tiny tangled streets that are lined with shops and markets. Hang out in one of the small plazas or duck into a tiny bistro for a bite to eat. You can easily get lost in this part of the city but part of the fun is just wandering.
Cheap flights to NiceNice’s beaches
Nice’s beaches may be on the pebbly side but who wants to fight with sand when going from beach-bum to city-chic? Bring your towel, maybe even a cushion for sitting on, sandals that can get wet and sunblock and soak up the rays! The rocks can be scaldingly hot in summer, so wear your sandals all the way into the water. There are free showers at all public beaches.
For sandy beaches nearby, get a Nice car hire and head to Cannes, Antibes or Villefranche-sur-Mer.
