Misterbnb was created in 2013 after an AirBnb user experienced a rather upsetting and uncomfortable exchange and was refused stay because he was with his gay partner.
Matthieu Jost and his partner where traveling to Barcelona and used the popular home stay website AirBnb to find their travel accommodation.
Upon learning that the couple were gay, the AirBnb host refused to host them which prompted the couple to leave the city and fly back to France the following day.
After this exchange and problematic situation it became clear to Jost that a safe home-stay platform was needed for gay men who travel.
Although AirBnb do not tolerate discrimination there have been some incidents reported in the media where LGBT couples have received ill treatment and/or refusal.
Currently Misterbnb have 33,500 hosts in 130 countries, and are looking to expand it even further as they move into the biggest brand for male-gay travellers.
AirBnb launched a video campaign earlier this year to promote LGBT travel.
