This Bangkok museum is a landmark and reason enough to visit Bangkok, especially for those with an obsession for their favourite action figures. Just think: 50,000 pieces of toy history in one place with figures and accessories from Terminator, Pixar, Marvel, DC and GI Joe.
This is the place where you can feel like a kid again.
Re-live your youth through this museum’s epic collection of toys! It all started out as a hobby (most brilliant things do, don’t they?). 39-year old Somchay Nitimongkolchai has collected thousands of toys, figurines, masks, collectibles, costumes and even life-size models of his favourite characters from films, comic books and TV. While the name certainly eludes to the fact that you’ll find a lot of Batman and Catwoman things here, the collect is far more than that now.
Currently the Batcat Toy Museum is the largest toy figurine collection in Thailand.
Somchay’s hobby turned into an obsession, which really picked up about 8 years ago. Once he had bought all of the now available figurines he started to collect vintage accessories and toys, some from as far back as the 1960s. He admits that 70% of the museum’s collection was bought on eBay, 20% from other collectors in Thailand and the rest came from collectors in Japan.
Once the collection was getting out of hand, Somchay developed the idea for a museum. It took a few months to build and design the displays but today it’s one of the hottest new museums in Bangkok. The museum has been open since July (2012) and has been a hit success since it opened its door, especially for those on holidays in Bangkok.
