The City of Light has decided to launch a bid for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, a games which has some pretty stiff European competition: Rome and Hamburg also want to host them.

The city council approved a resolution in favour of hosting the games this month, giving the go-ahead for a bid to be prepared for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games. It has been 100 years since the French capital last hosted the games. City officials said the bid would be led by athletes and would benefit the country’s struggling economy.

Paris led unsuccessful bids for the games in 1992, 2008 and 2012, when the honour went to London instead. Paris last hosted the Olympics in 1924, so it’s about time the city had another chance! Other cities in the running for 2024 so far include Boston, Rome and Hamburg in Germany but other potential candidates include Budapest, Baku in Azerbaijan, Istanbul and Doha and Qatar. The International Olympic Committee won’t choose the host city until 2017.

The cost of bidding is around 60 million euros, part of which will be raised through crowd funding. Which city would you like to see win the bid for the Games?
