With summer in full-swing, it was only fitting that yesterday’s Travel Talk on Twitter be about beaches. The talk was enthusiastic, who doesn’t love going to the beach? Here are your favourites along with the most over-rated beaches in the world.
But let’s start off with the best…
Q1 via @christinahegele: Where’s the world’s best beach? Why that one?
@TinyTravelLady: Praia Dona Ana in Lagos, Portugal – some great secluded spots among the cliffs and grottoes.
@adventurouskate: In Thailand: Railay Beach for the scenery, Lonely Beach, Koh Chang for the chill atmosphere, Koh Lanta for the sunsets.
@solotraveler: Tofino, British Columiba – natural and rugged beauty.
@20sTravel: Prettiest Beach I’ve seen was Bamboo Island off of Sihanoukville Cambodia.
@travelblggr: Oceanside CA, classic surfer town. Palm trees as tall as NYC skyscrapers. Tons of surfers.
@PaulGauguin: Best beach — Bora Bora, of course!
@MalloryOnTravel: Blackpool beach is of course high up that list 😉 http://twitpic.com/5wbjk5
Finally, everyone weighed in on the worst…
Q4 from @NickHealy: Most over-hyped beach you’ve ever visited? Why?
@AllyToullec: Pattaya. And the islands around. Disguting beaches with fat Russians and English middle-aged men. Found a condom in the sea as well.
@TravelinBetween: Venice Beach CA – great people watching, not a great beach.
@AbroadView: Waikiki Beach. Couldn’t even find real estate for my towel.
@QunoSpotter: Still Bondi. Concrete, seagulls, fish and chips? What is this? England? At least there’s a nice walk to Coogee.
@LandLopers: Mykonos, ugh, so bad so many Germans in speedos #nightmaresforlife
@travelmammal: A few beaches off Bahamas 2 deep 2 quickly. Beautiful water, great sand but couldn’t get past that riptide.
Have you been to any of these beaches? Which are your favourite beach holiday destinations?
