This year we saw the average fare of return travel fall five percent worldwide in the first eight months, compared to the same period in 2014.
The five percent fall has been seen in fares to Asia and Africa, and a slightly lower percentage (four percent) for Australia/Oceania. However, it appears there had been slight increase in fare prices to North America and the Caribbean.
Tony Tyler, IATA’s director general and CEO said, “In most parts of the world we see strong demand for travel exceeding the growth in capacity […] Load factors (the number of seats filled) are averaging over 80 per cent and consumers are the big winners with fares trending downwards.”
