British holiday home owners could be breaking the law if they have locals staying in their property who are unmarried.

Some British owners are finding that the guests they receive through Airbnb are not always the guests that turn up at the door – which in turn does not sit well with the religious laws and is therefore putting the property owners at risk of prosecution.

Some guests that would turn up to stay would be young, local, unmarried couples posing as foreigners on Airbnb. Moroccans can be jailed for having sexual relations outside marriage, and as an affiliation to the crime the property owners can be left with a heavy fine.

Foreign couples are exempt from these laws. So don’t fret if you’ve already got your flights to Morocco booked.
