Ever wondered where in Britain to visit on that family day out? Looking for a popular sight to check out in the country? These are the most popular attractions in the UK.

The Association of Leading Visitor Attractions (ALVA) revealed the most popular attractions in Britain this week, with the British Museum taking the top spot for the 10th year in a row! Free to visit and a great rainy day activity, in 2016 the museum welcomed over 6,420,395 visitors – just over the 6,262,839 welcomed by the second most popular attraction, the National Gallery.

The figures show the most visited attractions up and down the country. All 10 of those at the top of the list can be found in London, with the Tate Modern coming in at third place, followed by the Natural History Museum and the Southbank Centre.

Chester Zoo is the most popular attraction outside of London, welcoming1,898,059 visitors in 2016. Other popular non-London based attractions include the National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh Castle and the Scottish National Gallery.
