Europe has been blessed with some excellent weather conditions that have resulted in the Alps being in the best shape for winter so far. Get your skis at the ready!
In Europe the very cold air covering the ski areas have ensured that the altitudes have been dry. Now, the snow depths are substantial across the Western and northern Alps which means it is the perfect time to book your flights for a last-minute skiing trip.
At the beginning of the month the lack of snows on the Alps presented a problem for tourism within the popular skiing destination and bookings fell as much as a fifth compared to last year. But now – it seems that the mountains are back up and running.
The Swiss Alps are offering excellent conditions with dry and powdery snow. Some of the best skiing on offer can be found above Engelberg which reported over 50cm of fresh snow over the past week. All 25 lifts are operating in the resort and all pistes are open. The French resorts are also looking good with most pistes and lifts working in all the leading resorts, last week they received nearly 50cm of snowfall.
