Vietnam Airlines is packing its bags and moving out of London Gatwick Airport in order to offer passengers a direct route from Heathrow Airport, launching March 31st.
Vietnam Airlines currently operates two twice weekly flights to London, one from Hanoi and the other from Ho Chi Minh City, using a B777-200ER. From July however, the airline will use its brand new fleet of 787-9 Dreamliners to operate five weekly flights to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh.
The airline confirmed this route would become a daily service, but no dates have been announced. Think this is no big deal? Let’s just say that space at Heathrow Airport is super tight and this deal took an entire seven years to complete. There are another 30 airlines in the waiting line for slots at LHR so it’s a huge success that Vietnam Airlines managed the move and plans to add more services in the future.
