New data released by Euromonitor International reveals that more than half of the most visited cities in the world in 2013 were located in Asia with Hong Kong, Singapore and Bangkok leading the pack.
According to Euromonitor International, a private market intelligence firm, the same three cities were at the top of the list in 2012 but they’re sure the trends will change with the US economy becoming stronger. In Europe, London and Paris are the region’s biggest stars in terms of international visitors but Zurich is the fastest growing European city in terms of tourism, up 23% from the previous year.
The study also took a look at outbound traveller numbers, with China set to overtake Germany as the number one source of outbound international travel by 2017. Russians were also travelling more than ever before in 2013, but with the rouble in rapid decline now, that trend won’t last. Americans are travelling more and more now too, thanks to the strengthening dollar and low gas prices.
Euromonitor only released its numbers for 2013 now, due to its research schedule. So here’s the round-up of the most visited cities around the world.
