British sculptor, Jason deCaires Taylor, is planning an underwater display in Lanzarote, similar to the world’s first underwater museum off the coast of Cancun in Mexico. This will be Europe’s first museum of its kind.

The artist has signed a contract with the government of the island of Lanzarote that will allow him to display his work on the seabed off the coast from Las Colorados Beach, which is very near the tourist hot spot of Playa Blanca.

The cement artworks will be modelled on local people and are designed to attract plant life and colonies of sea creatures, bringing the local ecology to life as well as providing another interesting tourist attraction for visitors to enjoy, especially those who like scuba diving and snorkelling.

The project is called Museo Atlantico Lanzarote and will take two years to complete, so you can hold off on booking those flights to Lanzarote for now!
